Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

Provides division-wide delivery service of people and goods for the nutrition, transportation and senior center programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must pass required driver's training within two weeks of hire.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with prior work-related driving experience.

 

Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License in order to drive a County vehicle. Must pass initial and annual driver's license review and complete driver safety training.

 

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

 

Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides transportation services for customers and goods to and from destinations with sedans, vans and trucks assigned by program daily manifest.
  • Reviews manifests and makes changes to directions.
  • Provides door-to-door assistance when transporting customers to and from destinations; assures the use by all passengers of seat belts; and escorts customers with special mobility needs on and off ADA compliant vehicles.
  • Counts and loads food containers into vehicle when transporting goods. Delivers meals to assigned destination.
  • Reports observed changes in customer eligibility or physical and mental health to an appropriate staff member.
  • Reports immediately to appropriate organizations, such as 911, Adult Protective Services, or law enforcement, dangerous or unsafe observances.
  • Inspects vehicle, checking lights, tires, horn, emergency equipment and exterior for damage. Reports equipment damage or failure. Fuels and cleans vehicle.
  • Uses technology and software programs to obtain information regarding daily schedules and program clients.
  • Informs customers of other Aging Services opportunities and services.
  • May transport clients who utilize wheelchairs for the Rides for Wellness program using ADA compliant vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Successful candidates will be cross trained to work in our three Independent Aging programs. Rides for Wellness provides rides for older adults to vital medical appointments, including clients who utilize wheelchairs. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious midday meals to frail and isolated older adults. The congregate meal program delivers meals to senior centers. Requires walking on a variety of terrains while carrying items or assisting clients, standing, bending, sitting, stretching, regularly lifting 25-75 pounds, pushing a wheelchair/client, and exposure to all types of weather. Working conditions include working with the aging population, lifting food containers in and out of a vehicle, and regularly lifting wheelchairs and other mobility devices in and out of a vehicle. Drivers work up to 29 hours per week.

 

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

 

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
