$28.87 per hour

 

Must be 19 years old by November 29, 2024

 

We will pay for your POST Certification Training and also pay you an hourly wage and full benefits while attending our POST Academy. 

This recruitment is for an academy with a tentative start date of October 21, 2024.

 

Job Description

The position offers full-time Salt Lake County benefits such as Public Safety retirement through Utah Retirement Systems (URS), health insurance, paid sick and vacation time, tuition reimbursement, and the camaraderie of working with your friends and neighbors to protect and improve our community.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office runs a Certified POST Training Academy. As a cadet in our academy you will be taught the skills needed to begin your career in law enforcement. With years of experience, our instructors will guide you through course work in Federal and State laws, Ethical Leadership Skills, Verbal Communication Skills, as well as Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics trainings. 

Following the completion of your training, you will take your POST certification and a new professional outlook into your career with the Sheriff's Office.

 

Responsibilities

As a Deputy, you will learn valuable communication skills essential for assisting the public and/or dealing with our ever-changing prisoner population. This position is both challenging and rewarding. You will be responsible for providing law enforcement duties outside and tactical responses inside. You will learn defensive tactics to keep you and your new law enforcement family safe, as well as valuable de-escalation techniques to end incidents before they even begin. You will be involved in housing prisoners, processing new arrestees, responding to emergency situations, working with the mentally ill population, and will have many opportunities for growth and advancement.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Must be a U.S. citizen or have lived in the country for at least five years and have legal authorization to work

Must be at least 19 years of age by the date of hire

Must be a resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire

Must possess a valid Utah Driver's license at time of hire

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Must not have any disqualifying criminal history. Details can be found on Utah Department of Public Safety's website.

PT Test minimum requirements:

      • Vertical Jump = 14.5 inches
      • Push-Up = 14
      • Isometric Plank = 30 seconds
      • 1.5 Mile Run = Under 16 minutes and 11 seconds.
    • Only those who pass the PT test will continue through the hiring process
  • The Hiring Process includes:
    • PT Test
    • Initial Interview
    • Conditional Offer
    • Background Investigations Process including a Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA)
    • Background Interviews/Job Offers
    • If hired, you will be required to pass a Medical/Physical Evaluation and a Drug screen.
