JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of entry-level and semi-skilled work dealing with the maintenance, repair, and installation of traffic signals, school flashers, and street light poles.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) months of closely related experience.

Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the State of Utah within thirty (30) days of hire date.

Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card within thirty (30) days of hire date.

Must possess a current Utility Locator Certification within six (6) month of hire date.

Must attain flagging and forklift certifications within three (3) months of hire date.

Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signals, school flashers, and street light poles.
• Locates utilities (Bluestaking).
• Sets up warning signs, traffic cones, and barricades; flags traffic.
• Assists in installing conduits and pulling wire.
• Assists in operating standard electrical tools.
• Stocks trucks with necessary electrical parts.
• Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment.
• Cleans, stores, and performs routine and emergency repairs on assigned tools and equipment; reports mechanical problems to shop personnel.
• Assists with road maintenance, sidewalk repair, landscaping, flood control/draining, and snow removal.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public.
• Establishes positive working relationships with citizens, County agencies, and co-workers.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires driving, standing, squatting, and sitting in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time; a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet; and manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 60 lbs. on an intermittent basis. Constant exposure to traffic hazards, weather, extreme heat and cold, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and unsanitary conditions.
