Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

One (1) year of related experience driving box truck or other similar delivery vehicles.

Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License in order to drive a County vehicle. Must pass initial and annual driver’s license review and complete driver safety training.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Loads and unloads delivery bins, boxes, and other items. Sort’s bins and shift materials, to maximize space and organize truck interior as needed.
• Drives truck on residential streets and freeways to make deliveries according to a designated route.
• Inspects vehicle, checking lights, tires, horn, emergency equipment and exterior for damage. Reports equipment damage or failure. May perform minor maintenance tasks on delivery truck, as needed. Fuels and cleans vehicle.
• Operates hand truck or other light equipment to move library materials on dock and in libraries.
• Assists with other departmental functions, as needed to cover absences or equalize workload.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
• Standard safety practices in lifting and storing materials, and operating machines
• Defensive driving techniques and Utah traffic laws
• Vehicle maintenance procedures, needs and mechanical operations

 

Skills and Abilities to:
• Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions
• Safely operate equipment such as hand truck, electric and manual pallet jacks, and trucks
• Communicate clearly and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, members of the public and vendors
• Operate a 2 ½ ton truck and operate an automated lift gate
• Drive safely in all weather and road conditions
• Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions
• Understand and apply security measures

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
May require a flexible schedule and the ability to be called to work on short notice.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 150 pounds; push/pull a loaded hand truck; stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, reach, kneel, squat; and work in confined spaces. Exposure to seasonal weather conditions (both hot and cold) and adverse road conditions and hazards.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
Are not considered merit employees.
Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
