JOB SUMMARY

Assists the Operations Manager with oversight of the day-to-day operations of Clark Planetarium including visitor services, a concession stand, facility rentals, and additional areas of operations support including the planet fun store and event support. Directly oversees on-duty temporary staff (Guest Experience Team). This position supports evening, weekend, and holiday operations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Three (3) years of related retail and customer service experience.

 

Supervisory experience is preferred. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • As delegated by the Operations Manager or Planetarium Leadership, oversees the daily operations of the planetarium’s facility rentals, a concession stand, and customer relations. Serves as a backup for duties assigned to other Guest Services Supervisors.
  • Coordinates facility rentals. Communicates with interested clients and finalizes agreements. Holds special event meetings and coordinates with other managers to provide logistical  services for internal and external customers.
  • Oversees a concession stand. Performs inventory counts, places orders for products and receives deliveries using inventory management software and conducts periodic reviews to verify accuracy.
  • Performs support duties for the Planet Fun Store Buyer, including receiving, storing, purchasing, stocking, and supporting annual inventory counts.
  • Acts as staff liaison with Salt Lake County Protective Services to coordinate schedules, assignments, and duties of the PSO’s assigned to Clark Planetarium.
  • Participates in the daily management of the Guest Experience Team including new hire orientation, training, scheduling, and evaluating work performance.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Most work will be conducted in a general office environment. However, certain tasks may require lifting of 50 lbs. This job involves working with the general public in a retail setting that requires the ability to be on your feet for a period of several hours as necessary.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

Clark Planetarium is a 7 days per week, 363 days per year operation (closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas only), with operational hours averaging 14 hours a day. The general essential functions are broad, and specific job assignments may be customized to match the employee’s skill set.
