JOB SUMMARY
Operates a County truck to deliver materials according to a designated route. Receives, tracks, and delivers library materials. Loads and unloads bins of library materials, and allocates incoming shipments, and controls inventory.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of related experience and training in a delivery, dock, or warehouse environment.
Preference will be given to those with six (6) months or more of driving experience operating a 2-ton truck.
A valid Utah Driver's License is required.
Before starting in this position, you must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Drives trucks on residential streets and freeways to make deliveries according to a designated route.
• Loads and unloads delivery bins full of books and materials, boxes, and other items to several library branches on designated routes.
• Sorts bins and shift materials, to maximize space and organize truck interior as needed. Inspects vehicle, checking lights, tires, horn, emergency equipment and exterior for damage. Reports equipment damage or failure. May perform minor maintenance tasks on delivery truck, as needed. Fuels and cleans vehicle.
• Receives inventory, sorts, unpacks, and examines incoming shipments. Verifies accuracy of shipments via packing slips, documenting and reporting all shortages, damages, and discrepancies
• Unloads and stores inventory in appropriate bins, shelves, and pallets, and rotates stock.
• Routes materials and corresponding paperwork to appropriate destination.
• Prepares materials for shipment via freight carriers or internal delivery carriers, inventory control records; approves packing slips, and delivery paperwork.
• Organizes dock/delivery area to eliminate safety hazards, ensure cleanliness, and proper placement of materials for delivery.
• Operates pallet jacks, trucks, or other light equipment to move library materials in warehouse and for distribution.
• Assists with other departmental functions, as needed, to cover absences or equalize workload.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
• Defensive driving techniques and Utah traffic laws
• Vehicle maintenance procedures, needs, and mechanical operations
• Methods and procedures for shipping and receiving, storing, controlling, distributing, and issuing supplies in a large facility
• Ability to input and manage data electronically
• Standard safety practices in lifting and storing materials and operating machines
Skills and Abilities to
• Operate a 2 ½ ton truck and operate an automated liftgate
• Drive safely in all weather and road conditions
• Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions
• Read, write, understand, and follow moderately complex data and instructions in English, such as those contained in requisitions, purchase orders, hazardous chemical containers, operating instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Safely operate equipment such as hand trucks, electric and manual pallet jacks, and trucks
• Communicate clearly and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, members of the public, and vendors
• Plan and organize efficient space layouts for many supplies
• Plan task sequences and estimate time intervals to accomplish work objectives and utilize resources efficiently within scheduled hours
• Operate a personal computer to use inventory control and work processing software
• Operate general office equipment and phones
• Maintain basic computer skills to use inventory control and work processing software
• Understand and apply security measures
• Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions
This job's main focus will be driving and delivering of materials to various locations.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift up to 150 pounds with assistance; push/pull a loaded hand truck; stand, walk or sit for extended periods; bend, stoop, reach, kneel, squat; and work in confined spaces.
Exposure to seasonal weather conditions (both hot and cold), adverse road conditions, and hazards.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
Monday – Friday, day shift with some flexibility.
This position is a delivery driver with some dock work required.
