JOB SUMMARY
Manages Bureau programs and activities, ensuring safety, and good work practices for staff and clients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health or other closely related field, plus six (6) years of experience working in public or environmental health, of which two (2) years must have been supervisory.
Must be licensed as an Environmental Health Scientist in the State of Utah, or must be eligible for license reciprocity as determined by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
It is mandatory that all new hires receive the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis) vaccine before beginning employment or provide a copy of their immunization record prior to starting employment. The immunization record must show the vaccine name and date received.
Upon hire, a two-step Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be placed prior to starting employment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position leads and manages and the Air Quality Bureau in the Environmental Health Division. Job duties include oversight of the vehicle emissions program, air quality control and complaint investigations, climate resiliency and health planning, community outreach and some collaborative air pollution research and reporting. This position leads a team of eleven professionals, manages a $2.8 million budget with grant and fee funded revenue. Develops and maintains partnerships with local, state, and federal government agencies, organizations, businesses, and other community representatives. Supports and participates in Environmental Health Division, Salt Lake County Health Department and Salt Lake County initiatives.
Work schedule is usually Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the possible of hybrid work. May need to occasionally work after hours and weekend.
