JOB SUMMARY
Performs and trains as an entry-level community health worker advocating for underserved and underrepresented community members. Receives on-the-job training while gaining the skills and knowledge needed to advance into careers in public health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a Health Literacy Certification within one (1) year of hire.
Community Health Worker Certification is strongly preferred.
Experience working in specific zip codes/neighborhoods and with underrepresented communities strongly preferred.
Ability to read, write, and speak in a language other than English strongly preferred.
A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire, in order to operate a county vehicle.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
It is mandatory that all new hires receive the TDaP vaccine before beginning employment or provide a copy of their immunization record prior to starting employment. The immunization record must show the name of the vaccine and date received.
Upon hire, a two-step Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be in place prior to starting employment.

This position will be working with people who use restricted substances and job duties will include educating community members on harm reduction and stigma reduction around drug use.
The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8AM - 5PM but employee may be required to work non-typical hours, holidays, nights, weekends, or special events as needed.
This position requires travel throughout Salt Lake County so a driver's license, reliable car, and auto insurance are required.
This position requires working closely with other programs within the health department.
May require lifting and moving objects. May require standing for long periods of time. May require to be outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
May require meeting with clients in -person or in their homes.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
This is a Time Limited Position. Time-limited Appointed employees will perform work for a specified amount of time dependent on agency funding. They are exempted by law from the rights of a merit employee and work as an at will employee.
May be required to work holidays, nights, weekends, or special events as needed. May be required to work non-typical hours.
