JOB SUMMARY


Plans, promotes, coordinates, supervises and evaluates assigned youth and adult recreation programs
and community events.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Four (4) years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.


Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment
background check.


A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah is required within thirty (30) days of hire
date to operate a Salt Lake County vehicle.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed

Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the
job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

 

  • Plans, promotes, and coordinates youth and adult recreation programs and community
    events.
  • Identifies the needs and feasibility of current and future programs.
  • Hires, trains, promotes, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates temporary employees and
    volunteers.
  • Assists with preparing and administrating individual program or facility budgets as appropriate,
    monitors expenditures and payroll.
  • Completes post-program evaluations which include patron feedback, program success and failures,
    program budget monitoring report, and implementation for future seasons/programs.
  • Manages multiple programs at multiple locations simultaneously.
  •  Participates in job-related committees, sub-committees, and professional development
    activities.
  •  Purchases program supplies and equipment. Maintains and controls inventory.
  • Provides effective customer service. Reconciles program and patron complaints and respond to
    sensitive issues with general guidance from the supervisor.
  • Assures that program fees are collected.
  • Completes assigned reports.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

 

Knowledge of:

  • Developing and administrating youth and adult recreation and sports programs and
    activities
  •  Word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and other recreation related software
  • Rules of a variety of sports
  • Knowledge of scheduling and bracketing youth and adult sports
  • Supervisory principles and practices
  • Budget preparation and monitoring and methods of fiscal control
  • Public relations principles and techniques

 

Skills and Abilities to:

 

  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and tasks in an effective and timely manner to
    meet critical deadlines
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, and other

  • Prepare and administer budget, maintain records and prepare reports
  •  Delegate tasks and give staff appropriate direction to complete assigned tasks
  • Supervise and train subordinate staff

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must intermittently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Will occasionally work in outdoor conditions
and be exposed to all seasons of weather.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

 

Required to work flexible day and evening hours, including some weekends and holidays.

 

Applicants applying for an aquatic position must possess the following at the time of hire OR obtain within six
(6) months of hire date: Certification as a StarFish Aquatic Institute StarFish Swimming Instructor
(SSI) AND a Certified Pool Operator (CPO); OR an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) AND a StarGuard Instructor Trainee (SAI).
