JOB SUMMARY


Provides Division-wide delivery service of people and goods for the nutrition, transportation, and senior center programs.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Six (6) months of work experience in a position with related driving experience or equivalency.


A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah is required to operate a County vehicle. Must pass initial and annual driver’s license review and complete driver safety training.


May require the possession of a current Food Handler’s Permit.


Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements. 


Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides transportation services for customers and goods to and from destinations with sedans, vans, and trucks as assigned by the program daily manifest.
  • Reviews manifests and makes changes to directions.
  • Provides door-to-door assistance when transporting customers to and from destinations; assures the use by all passengers of seat belts; and escorts customers with special mobility needs on and off ADA-compliant vehicles.
  • Counts and loads food in containers into vehicles when transporting goods. Delivers meals to assigned destinations.
  • Reports observed changes in customer eligibility or physical and mental health to an appropriate staff member.
  • Immediately reports dangerous or unsafe incidents and observations to appropriate organizations, such as 911, Adult Protective Services, or law enforcement.
  • Inspects vehicles, checking lights, tires, horns, emergency equipment, and exterior for damage. Reports equipment damage or failure. Fuels and cleans vehicles.
  • Uses technology and software programs to obtain information regarding daily schedules and program clients.
  • Informs customers of other Aging Services opportunities and services.
  • May transport wheelchair-bound customers for the Rides for Wellness program using ADA-compliant vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Defensive driving techniques and traffic laws
  • Vehicle maintenance needs and mechanical operations
  • Related technology, such as two-way radios, GPS units, or other mobile devices
  • Passenger assistance techniques and proper use of wheelchair restraints
  • Food handling

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


For All Drivers:


Working with the aging population, lifting food containers in and out of trucks, and regularly lifting wheelchairs & other mobility devices in and out of vehicles. Walking on a variety of terrains while carrying items or assisting clients. Standing, walking, bending, sitting, stretching, regularly lifting 25-50 lbs., pushing wheelchairs/clients up to 300 pounds. Exposure to all types of weather. May drive for a Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, and/or Rides for Wellness.


For Rides for Wellness Wheelchair Drivers:


Must be able to load, secure, transport, and unload wheelchair-bound clients in both manual and power wheelchairs, following all safety requirements.


For Congregate Drivers:


Must be able to regularly lift food containers weighing up to 75 lbs.
