JOB SUMMARY
The Salt Lake County Health Department is seeking a history, archivist, library science, or public health student for summer 2025 to organize and catalog our historic photo archive in preparation for transfer to the Salt Lake County Archive Vaults. May also digitize select items, too.
This intern will review historic public health photos and slides, and then organize, group, and catalog them appropriately. Cataloging may require researching the topics and scenes (via reference sources and/or employee interviews) depicted to ensure appropriate organization and labeling. The intern is expected to follow archival science best practices for permanent, protective storage of historic records.
The health archives/history intern will be introduced to a variety of current and historic public health topics and practices and will gain experience in research and reference, verbal and written communication, project management, archival best practices, and technology tools.
Work is Monday through Friday, 16 to 20 hours per week. Exact days and hours are flexible to accommodate a school schedule but should be consistent week-to-week.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor OR Graduate program. Preferred programs would include History, Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, Museum Studies, and/or Public Health.
