Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office is seeking a Communications and Multimedia Intern for the Summer 2025 term. This internship is ideal for students with a strong interest in government and political affairs, along with skills in communications, post-production, and graphic design.

Interns will support the creation and promotion of videos, graphics, photos, and written content that highlight the County’s priorities and connect with constituents. This hands-on opportunity is perfect for candidates eager to apply their writing, design, and project management skills in a meaningful, real-world setting.

Work is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule. There may be occasional work on the weekends.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor OR Graduate program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop visual content and collateral to include flyers, posters, graphics, photographs, and videos to support digital and print needs.
  • Social media management.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Mayor’s Office as well as work cross-functionally across the organization to create visual content.
  • Follow visual branding guides to maintain the design integrity of web properties and communications.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to keep projects on track and meet deadlines necessary to achieve department strategic goals and objectives.
  • Photograph and video events and other occasions, as needed.
  • Create and edit videos with professional equipment/software.
  • Manage the website according to industry’s best practices.
  • Support the planning, promotion, and execution of events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in graphic design, photography, and video is
  • Solid understanding of the different social media
  • Consistent demonstration of responsibility and
  • Ability to complete tasks under deadlines while managing multiple
  • Motivated, creative, detail-oriented, adaptable and
  • Knowledge of graphic design and layout principles with professional
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Canva, or other design software.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative acumen in graphic design and layout, videography, website, and social media management.
  • Students with a focus in Communication, Marketing, and Graphic Design are preferred; but all applicants are welcome.

PAY: $18.00/hour

START DATE: The internship begins May 2025 (start date flexible) and ends August 2025. There may be the possibility of an extension.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Interns will work from the Salt Lake County Government Complex with the opportunity for remote hours within the state of Utah. They will be provided with a computer and an email account. Interns may be asked to attend meetings off-site, at other government facilities, or in the community. Interns may be sitting for long periods of time at a computer.
