JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision from the Division Director, plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates
all vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance tasks performed by staff working on an assigned
shift. Establishes priorities, controls workflow and quality, and evaluates staff and equipment
performance. Plans, directs, and evaluates work in the preventive maintenance program, emission
testing, oil analysis, annual inspections, and other specialized programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) years of experience as a fleet equipment mechanic, of which two (2) years must have been in
a lead capacity. Requirement for experience in repairing light or heavy equipment will be as
specified by the division.
Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire.
Must maintain a basic tool set according to the Division "B" tool list.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of
staff responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
* Establishes schedules and methods for providing vehicle and equipment maintenance
services. Identifies resource needs, reviews needs with appropriate management staff, and allocates
resources accordingly.
* Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and
procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures.
* Participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures. Monitors
work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
* Supervises staff which includes selection, training, correcting deficiencies, and
implementing discipline procedures.
* Maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records and repair costs. Prepares
charges for user departments.
* Maintains records concerning operations and programs. Prepares reports on operations and activities.
* Monitors and controls supplies and equipment. Orders parts, supplies and tools as necessary. Prepares documents for equipment procurement.
* Prepares specifications for vehicle and equipment purchases.
* Performs the full range of equipment mechanic duties. Performs the most complex vehicle maintenance duties. Provides technical assistance to mechanics and training to equipment operators.
