JOB SUMMARY
Supports complex and varied tasks aligned with public health informatics initiatives across programs, divisions, and the agency. Plans, develops policies, analyzes systems, manages data, coordinates projects, and communicates across teams. Assists in developing implementing, evaluating, and maintaining public health information systems.
This position is housed within Salt Lake County Health Department Information Services and plays a key role in developing and enhancing the County’s opioid-related data infrastructure. The individual will collaborate closely with the Health Department and Human Services to improve systems for data collection, storage, integration, interoperability, access, and management. These efforts are vital for enabling a coordinated and effective response to the opioid epidemic, guiding cross-agency prevention strategies, and advancing broader goals of systemic coordination. The role involves close collaboration with epidemiologists, IT/informatics staff, and data analysts. The ideal candidate will have a background in health informatics, strong problem-solving and project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and work across departments.
This role requires experience in data integration, data quality assurance, managing ETL workflows in particular data warehouses with a strong focus on data integration, process management and ensuring high data quality. Responsibilities include handling more complex data tasks, integrating data from various sources, ensuring data quality, and managing data processes.
This role collaborates with Human Services to monitor opioid-related issues, improve data access, and support targeted interventions as part of broader DMI efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Public Health Informatics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Public Health, or Health Administration, or other closely related field, plus four (4) years of related experience of which two (2) years must have been in health informatics; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Education may not be substituted for the required health informatics experience.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
Must be available to provide on-call coverage for public health emergencies in regard to communicable disease and bioterrorism investigation and response protocols if needed.
This is a hybrid position working Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and will require weekly time working in the office.
