Job Description

 

JOB SUMMARY

Serve as a front-line, representative of Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation, collecting day and season pass fees, providing information about the area's recreational opportunities, rules and regulations and yurt and picnic areas to the Millcreek Canyon visitors.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

One (1) year of experience with basic payment handling, modern computer software programs and customer relations.


Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

  • Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale system to conduct financial transactions.
  • Perform opening and closing functions.
  • Issue entrance receipts, annual passes, yurt reservation keys/returns.
  • Direct canyon visitors to facilities, camp sites, restaurants, picnic areas, and trailheads.
  • Inform visitors about Millcreek Canyon and National Forest rules and regulations.
  • Distribute educational material to canyon visitors.
  • Accept public comments and suggestions and refer them to the appropriate staff.
  • Receive, record, and account for program monies received from canyon visitors.
  • Prepare financial report and track visitor traffic.
  • Act as a contact for emergency situations. Contact appropriate emergency service and relay pertinent information.  Direct service vehicles and/or personnel to the location of the emergency.
  • Alert manager to stock levels of passes and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

WORK SCHEDULE/PAY RATE

 

4-12 hours per week with 12-25 per week during peak times.  Preference will be given to applicants who can work evening and weekend hours and are flexible to fill in as needed.  The Booth is open 7 days a week.

 

Shifts are:   

  • April – 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May through September – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • October through March – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Hourly rate is $18.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

 

This position works at an exit station. Work is performed in a small structure with open windows which results in exposure to temperature fluctuations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties are performed alone and in an isolated location.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS

  •  Must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are ‘at will’ employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
