JOB SUMMARY
Provides laboratory support by performing routine laboratory procedures on specimens for pathological examination by preparing, maintaining and accurately using laboratory equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical, Physical or Biological science or other closely related field plus one (1) year of experience in a field closely related to these duties; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Must be able to obtain Abbott Laboratory Certification.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Utah Driver's License to transport samples to outside labs.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background investigation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Draws blood and collects body fluids as needed for routine blood tests; takes vital signs; reads Tb tests; performs laboratory tests as directed.
- Prepares specimens for examination, counts cells and readies for other test procedures; performs test procedures on specimens by using automated equipment and reports test and abnormal results.
- Collects labels, packages, and sends specimens to offsite testing facilities.
- Ensures laboratory equipment is serviced, calibrated, and maintained according to CLIA and manufacturer's requirements and specifications.
- Maintains and logs test reports, quality control logs, equipment records and checklists; compiles and updates electronic medical records, scans documents; ensures the daily transfer of data into the electronic medical records; archives, and purges records per policy.
- Assists nurses in delivery of health care, schedules clinicians and lab tests, prints discharge summaries, admits and discharges patients, enters codes and/or diagnosis, obtains consent/release forms from prisoners, ensures results are routed to the appropriate clinical staff and updates prisoner records.
- Stocks medical exam rooms, dental clinic and physician’s carts; maintains adequate inventory of laboratory supplies; orders all medical supplies for the Health Services Unit.
- Maintains technical and procedural manuals; assists in maintaining Health Service's Division medical information library.
