JOB SUMMARY
Translates physicians’ dictation of patient care and treatment into comprehensive typed records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of medical transcription experience.
Accurately type more than 65 words per minute.
Specialized Transcription training, license, or certificate preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides accurate and timely transcribed reports of physician orders and medical documents.
- Transcribes physicians’ notes into well-organized and accurate statements.
- Transcribes and produces letters as requested.
- Investigates inconsistencies in medical records and appropriately edits or revises without altering the meaning or changing the author’s style.
- Participates in ongoing quality assurance projects and meetings relating to transcription.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Electronic Health Records
- Correct English usage, including rules of proper grammar, punctuation, and style, correct spelling, and logical sentence structure
- Medical language and its structure, editing, and terminology
- CPT, DRG, and ICD-9 coding terminologies and general application
- Pharmacological terminology
- Relevant Sheriff’s Office and Jail policies and procedures
Skills and Abilities to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Operate standard office machines
- Operate a standard transcription station with foot controls
- Operate a telephone system
- Follow verbal and written procedures and instructions
- Maintain confidentiality and security of health care documentation
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work duties are typically performed in a general office setting.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Ability to lift items up to 20 pounds.
Ability to use a keyboard for long periods of time.
Must have a normal level of audiometric acuity.
