JOB SUMMARY
Acts as the technical expert to create and maintain geographic data by importing and processing data from other sources. Assists in maintaining the accuracy and quality of GIS information to support the Division functions, processes, and analytical requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Designs, creates, and maintains custom thematic maps and produces custom products to visualize, verify, and correct geospatial data using GIS software.
- Maintains and updates geospatial databases and datasets; extracts, cleans, adjusts, and converts data and information from non-GIS systems into GIS formats.
- Analyzes, researches, and validates the accuracy of data; coordinates the resolution of database problems with others; may work with other agencies to import/export multiple data layers using sound change control procedures.
- Performs basic spatial, SQL, and tabular queries.
- Converts and geo-references spatial data from one coordinate system to another, using basic geodetic principles,
- Uses software, hardware, and tools to integrate multiple databases from a variety of sources, including aerial photography, for analytical purposes.
- Consults with internal and external agencies regarding coordination activities.
- Consults with users and supervisors regarding GIS hardware and software requirements.
- Provides training and assistance to new and existing GIS users, including written instructions, training documents, and procedures.
- Maintains GIS Metadata and participates in GIS user groups.
- May collect field data using GPS or other equipment as needed.
Addressing:
- Oversees accuracy and completeness of all data; reinforces Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) documents and coordinates with other GIS users to resolve conflicting data and other anomalies.
Flood Control Engineering:
- Creates web maps using predefined tools and templates in GIS software.
