Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Assists the overall operation, including acquisitions, cataloging, database maintenance, receiving, interlibrary loan, and materials processing of the Technical Services Department. Supervises assigned staff.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Information Science, or other directly related degree, plus two (2) years of professional librarian experience in a public library, OR an equivalent combination of related education and public librarian work experience.

 

Preference will be given to the candidates with an MLS/MLIS degree, Technical Service experience, and Supervisory Experience.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assists in the overall operations of the Technical Services Department, including acquisitions, cataloging, database maintenance, receiving, and materials processing.
  • Assumes general management responsibilities in the absence of the Technical Services Manager.
  • Supervises assigned staff, which includes hiring, promoting, orienting, training, assigning, and reviewing work performance, annual performance appraisal, and discipline.
  • Assists in the direction and priorities for the Technical Services Department. Develops policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and best practices are used.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring the annual budget for the Technical Services Department.
  • Serves as a liaison with branches, library departments, administrative staf,f and the public, and assists with long-range planning functions.
  • Works to assess, plan, and coordinate workflow and processes and resolve operational problems.
  • Assists with productivity and accuracy standards and monitors all aspects of the department’s workflow to meet targets.
  • Assists with materials invoicing and purchase order functions and monitors the accuracy of related fiscal records.
  • Assists with the end-of-year closing of purchase records and carryover to the following year.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining contacts with vendors and library partners.
  • Assists with acquisitions and receiving processes to coordinate department needs with vendor capabilities and reviews vendor performance.
  • Monitors the delivery of customer service by departmental staff.
  • Assists with creating reports and compiles, analyzes, and reports statistics.
  • Participates in management meetings, training workshops, and library professional organizations.
