Job Description

Clark Planetarium’s Laser Show Presenter brings light, music, and storytelling together to create unforgettable dome experiences. This role combines live performance, technical skills, and audience engagement to showcase a world of light and color where science, art, and sound collide. The Laser Show Presenter will provide live and prerecorded laser shows to audiences in the dome theater.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate laser projection, audio, and lighting systems during live shows.
  • Introduce shows with brief, energetic, and informative live presentations that set the tone for positive audience engagement.
  • Ensure show transitions, timing, and special effects run smoothly and safely.
  • Assist guests before and after shows, answering questions and promoting related programming.
  • Monitor and maintain show equipment, following operational and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the dome production and technical teams to refine and enhance presentations.
  • Support special laser-themed events, concerts, and community nights.
  • Working with the Lead Laserist, produce new laser show content.

Qualifications

  • Strong stage presence, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Enthusiasm for music, light, and immersive experiences.
  • Basic technical aptitude or interest in learning laser and AV systems.
  • Musical aptitude; ability to trigger lighting and other visual effects quickly and in time with music during entertainment light shows. 
  • Ability to perform consistently across multiple daily shows.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in guest-facing environments.
  • Prior experience in performance, technical theatre, or guest service preferred but not required.

Work Environment

 

Laser shows are performed in a darkened, high-energy environment with music, lights, and fog effects. This position involves weekend, evening, and holiday shifts as part of the planetarium’s entertainment schedule and speaking in front of a live audience.

 

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

 

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.  

  • Must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
