Background Check Information

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Manages, maintains, troubleshoots and services several IT systems, including desktop hardware and software; digital signage, exhibits and IoT network; IMAX theatre systems; and network infrastructure. Acts as primary backup to the Information Technology Manager in all other IT functions and areas. Supervises IT support staff. Trains and educates Division staff in basic computer operations, IT security and safety.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Four (4) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of related certification and/or education and experience.

 

Supervisory experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

  • Supervises staff, which includes hiring, orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisals, and discipline.
  • Manages the planetarium's Digital Signage Network, including hardware, software, data integration with Galaxy. Manages exhibit systems integrated network.
  • Maintains IMAX theatre equipment, automation and ancillary systems. Manages programming and scheduling. Develops and manages staff interactions & live presentation pre-show. Manages the inter-theatre media network.
  • Manages general office workstations, including hardware, software, network infrastructure. Works with other departments on specialized computer systems such as the exhibits network, render farm, SOS network.
  • Manages the planetarium's controlled asset inventory database. Processes updates, including additions/deletions and corrections. Works with Facilities staff to process disposal or reassigment of assets.
  • Serves as primary backup for the IT/Theatres Manager on other critical systems such as the Galaxy POS,  Counterpoint Inventory Management, Physical Security systems, VOIP phone network, solar array network, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

 

  • Advanced computer operations with a wide variety of software and system platforms
  • Network infrastructure, including rack systems, cabling, switch, firewall and router basics
  • IMAX-specific theatre systems, including projection, sound, automation
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Perform programming and operation of theater sub-systems
  • Work independently with little direct supervision
  • Work in a team environment, organize and conduct meetings, and effectively follow up on assignments
  • Establish priorities and follow through with task completion in a timely manner
  • Work on multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining the status for each at a high level
  • Work within budgets to accomplish tasks

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to climb ladders, lift up to 50lbs, stoop and crawl in limited-access spaces. Must be able to work in dark places and noisy environments.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

 

Clark Planetarium is open 363 days a year with operational hours averaging twelve (12+) hours a day. Scheduling flexibility is required. Occassional work required during early-morning/late-night and (rarely) overnight hours. May be required to work weekends and holidays.
