Job Description

Serves as the first point of contact for visiting guests.  Responsible for ensuring that guests feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated.  Oversees the front-facing members of the Guest Experience Staff (GET).  Directs, supports, and mentors GET staff.  Responsible for all GET functions while on duty and may need to assist with duties as required.  Manages seed funds, change funds, and completes shift reports. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must secure and maintain a valid Food Handler’s permit within the first two weeks of employment.

 

Leadership and cash handling experience preferred.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides direction, support, and mentoring to the GET staff.
  • Proactively greets, engages, and anticipates guest needs and engages with guests in a friendly and positive manner regarding Planetarium offerings, procedures, prices, information, and directions.
  • Steps in and performs GET staff duties as needed to ensure the best guest experience.
  • Facilitates start-of-shift briefings on Planetarium happenings and assigns shift members to various areas of responsibility, as well as setting an upbeat start of the shift for the GET staff.
  • Verifies and disburses seed funds at the beginning of the day and the start of the shift.
  • Verifies and reviews end-of-shift cash out as per established procedures and policies.
  • Reports discrepancies as per established procedures.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the facility in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responsible for reviewing end-of-day tasks performed by GET staff.
  • Ensures all Clark Planetarium policies and best practices are followed.
  • Performs and ensures that the GET staff meets superior service standards.
  • Projects a professional image by adhering to established dress and appearance codes and communication etiquette.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and upkeep of the public-facing areas of the facility.
  • Walks the floor and interacts with guests. Provide a personal touch by interpreting exhibits.
  • May be asked to be the Manager on duty in the absence of the GET management.
  • Assists in the cleanliness and maintenance of exhibits and surrounding areas.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

 

Knowledge of:

  • General knowledge of computer applications.
  • Basic astronomy and space science knowledge a plus.
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

  

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Ability to multitask and react quickly to an ever-changing environment.
  • Passion for providing excellent customer service.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Interact with diverse populations and a wide variety of staff and guests.
  • Noisy workplaces with large crowds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, grip, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Holidays, weekends, and evening shifts required.
