Temporary Truck Driver


DEPARTMENT: Public Works DIVISION: Operations/4400

JOB SUMMARY
Transports all types of materials to Public Works projects. Performs skilled road maintenance,
construction, and ensures the safety of the public, personnel, property, and
equipment.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of work experience in a field closely related to these duties.

Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Must possess a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire.
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this
position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and
reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed
by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of specific duties and

Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the
job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

 

• Operates 10 wheel, 6 wheel, supertruck, pup, and a variety of light and heavy duty equipment and
a full range of power and hand tools. Performs daily inspections of equipment and tools for safety
and/or mechanical defects and coordinates needed repairs with vendors or with Fleet Management.


• Performs manual labor/maintenance, repair, and construction work. Performs snow removal, crack
sealing, flood control, grate cleaning, flagging as needed,and placement and removal of asphalt and
concrete.


• Assists in special events and emergency situations such as ones caused by adverse weather
conditions (i.e. snow removal or flooding) and/or other major disasters (i.e. earthquakes or road
closure).


• Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Manual on
Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) rules and regulations at all times.


• Investigates citizen concerns and resolves issues in a professional and courteous manner while
maintaining a safe environment and providing excellent customer service.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)


Knowledge of:


• Materials, tools, and equipment used in road maintenance, construction, and otherrepair
work


• Safety in work areas including but not limited to road maintenance, construction, snow removal,
and traffic control in accordance with OSHA and MUTCD rules and regulations


• Maintenance and repair of asphalt, concrete, and storm drains


• Standard operations and procedures (SOP) utilized in training

 

Skills and Abilities to:

 

• Operate a variety of light and heavy duty equipment, various types of trucks and trailers, and a
full range of power and hand tools

 

• Perform minor repairs and daily maintenance

 

• Operate and complete maintenance of asphalt, concrete, landscape, and snow removal

 

• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

 

• Perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions

 

• Accurately prepare daily records of work performed

 

• Follow standard operating procedures (SOP)

 

• Establish and maintain professional working relationships with team members, other agencies and
the public

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to drive and operate various types of equipment, stand, walk, use hands to handle or
operate objects, tools, or controls; reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl;
frequent use of arms, legs and back to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee regularly works
outdoors and may be exposed to harsh weather conditions. Work near moving vehicles and machinery.
May be exposed to fumes, smoke and other particles. Noise levels can be extreme.
