Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

The mission of the Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) program is to enhance Salt Lake County resident and visitor experiences through artistic, botanical, cultural, and recreational offerings. The program fulfills its purpose by: 

 

  • Grantmaking: Provides fair and equitable access to ZAP funding and education resources by making grants to qualified nonprofit organizations and municipalities. 
  • Promotion: Increase public awareness of the value of ZAP through grantee activities promotion. 
  • Capacity Building: Provide adequate, predictable support for larger organizations and enhanced support for the smaller local organizations. 

 

The position is a paid internship reporting to the ZAP Director. The purpose of the position is to assist ZAP and our grantees within Salt Lake County in serving their communities. It will also work to increase public awareness of the value of the ZAP program.

 

The candidate will have an opportunity to learn skills from the different positions that are held within the ZAP team and the Arts & Culture division. A mentor will be assigned to guide and assist the intern’s development and growth.

    • Experience providing promotional-related technical and administrative assistance to the program and a wide array of cultural organizations
    • Hands-on experience of day-to-day communications tasks, including program and community-based social media promotion
    • Hands-on experience planning events and working with community partners and grantees
    • Develop familiarity with online communication systems
  • Communication Related Projects
    • Primarily, promotional/awareness efforts and event management for our summer:
      • ZAP Community Showcase program
      • Grantee community outreach, and
      • July Impact Program Workshop.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assist in the delivery of the ZAP Community Showcase program, including communication efforts, coordination with program partners, and assisting in the planning and execution of outreach efforts and events.
  • Assist in providing technical and administrative support for ZAP awareness and educational events.
  • Assist in the day-to-day content creation for ZAP’s social media outlets – Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram; respond to inquiries and comments on ZAP’s social media channels in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the creation of a monthly e-newsletter and website updates
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assignments will be finalized based on the intern’s skills, interests, and learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Candidates currently enrolled in coursework related to any aspects of Marketing, Communications, Arts, or Government Administration. Experience in social media and/or event management.

 

Hours

 

This position is 15-20 hours per week from May through August 2026. Monday through Friday and possibly some weekends, with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule.

 

A portion of the work hours can be accomplished by remote work:

    • There is a cohort lunch once a week where interns join together to discuss their roles, what they're learning, and receive coaching.
    • ZAP also has a 'day' in the office on Tuesdays for spending a few hours together as a team. We work with intern schedules flexibly for meeting the Tuesday time together.
    • Product delivery to stakeholders and tabling events should be handled in person.

 

PAY: $18-20.00 Hourly

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
