JOB SUMMARY

 

The Data and Analytics team builds solutions to manage, analyze, and present data across a wide variety of Salt Lake County agencies.  Our primary tools are Talend, Python, Power BI, and SQL Server. This role may involve interactive dashboards, reports, data pipelines, and data integrations.  Successful candidates will exhibit curiosity, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or other closely related field OR an equivalent combination of four (4) years of related education and experience.

 

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyzes and troubleshoots technical issues and identifies modifications needed in applications to meet changing user requirements.
  • Assists with analysis, profiling, and documentation of business information systems and applications.
  • Works with other engineers, programmers, and analysts in planning, prioritizing, and executing assigned tasks within deadlines.
  • Assists in analysis and troubleshooting of technical issues.
  • Assists in preparing training documents and training application users as needed.
  • Works with the Quality Assurance (QA) team in preparing test cases, plans, and procedures.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

 

Knowledge of: 

  • Application design and engineering
  • Common programming languages and standards, e.g., C#, Java, Python, .Net, REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, SQL, HTML, etc.
  • Software development environments and tools, e.g., Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, Git, etc.
  • Databases, data design, data warehousing, data modeling (e.g., MS SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, etc.)
  • Information security, networking, access control, application configuration, application monitoring, and application performance

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, listen and understand, and disseminate information and ideas
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Remain calm under stress and quickly adjust, evolve, and multitask between several competing priorities at once
  • Logically and systematically analyze and solve problems
